New Mexico Light in the Night Sky

Back in the '80s, when I was still a young kid, I used to ride with my dad in the summer when I was on summer break. He was a truck driver and he was always driving all over the USA and parts of Canada. That's how I have been able to visit 48 of our 50 beautiful states. One summer around 1985 or so we were in New Mexico. At night time when you are not near a city the night sky is amazing to look at. Before bed time my dad and step mother told me about looking for shooting stars. Of course I was very interested. We climbed on top of the truck and jumped over to the top of the trailer. We all lied down on our backs and stared up at one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen. It didn't take long to see a few shooting stars. My dad, being a very knowledgeable guy, explained the science behind these meteors rather than talk about making a wish on a shooting star. He knew I preferred the scientific over fantasy back then. While I was lying there I noticed a small white light traveling in a straight line way above the height where an airplane would fly. He explained to me that the sky is so clear that maybe we were seeing a satellite. That truly fascinated me thinking that I could actually see a satellite.

When we were done sky watching we climbed down off the truck and got ready for bed. I don't know how familiar you are with trucks but the type my dad had was the type with a sleeper in the cab. My dad and step mom would sleep there and I would sleep in the trailer if there was room enough behind or between loads. This night the trailer had and empty area in the front and was full from the middle to the back. This left me an area I could call my bedroom for the night. I would prop the side door open with blocks of wood to keep the door from closing all the way and use cargo straps to prevent the door from opening more than the thickness of the blocks holding it open. It was a very secure set up and I felt safe from would be intruders.

Once I was settled in on my bed of furniture pads and I got used to the heat I fell asleep. At some point that night I had one of the most vivid and scary dreams I had ever had up to that point. I dreamt that there was a large man trying to break in to my makeshift bedroom. I could see him. The part that was scariest wasn't that he was trying to break in, it was that he didn't look completely human. He looked like a large person with a "person suit " on that looked like the character Bluto (Brutus) from the Popeye cartoon. He fought with the door for a while and I felt what he was thinking. He wasn't trying to get to what was in the trailer he was trying to get to me. Finally he looked away for a second, looked back at me and then left. I didn't see where he went but while I was looking out the crack in the door I saw what looked like three silvery blue triangular flying craft fly away in a  delta formation. They weren't going fast and flew across the horizon from my right to my left until they were out of sight.

To best describe the craft I would say that they were like a triangle with each point cut off. They had white and blueish lights around the edges. I couldn't tell exactly how large they were but I would estimate somewhere between a Lear Jet and a Boeing 727. I have been an airplane buff since I was a little kid. I have never seen anything like this until recently on some of the UFO shows on TV. I saw some sketches that looked like the craft I saw in my dream. Back then I hadn't heard about the UFO story in Roswell NM yet but coincidently we weren't far from there that night. I remember as soon as I heard about that Roswell story I thought of that night. My dad made me keep a journal when I rode with him but I couldn't find it to see where we were that night. I called my dad and asked him where we were skywatching that night and luckily he remembered what I was talking about and was able to tell me. I felt like this memory was just a dream but after watching all the UFO shows I kind of wonder if it was a real event. I have no evidence so I won't claim that it really happened but I will say that it felt real. The anxiety that I felt and the wonder I was left with after were certainly real.
